Wanna Cry Ransomware

05.25

First and foremost, let’s clarify exactly what WannaCry is. This malware is a scary type of trojan virus called “ransomware.” As the name suggests, the virus in effect holds the infected computer hostage and demands that the victim pay a ransom in order to regain access to the files on his or her computer.
RansomWare like WannaCry works by encrypting most or even all of the files on a user’s computer. Then, the software demands that a ransom be paid in order to have the files decrypted. In the case of WannaCry specifically, the software demands that the victim pays a ransom of $300 in bitcoins at the time of infection. If the user doesn’t pay the ransom without three days, the amount doubles to $600. After seven days without payment, WannaCry will delete all of the encrypted files and all data will be lost.

Shark Finning

05.01

Shark fin export has officially been suspended after Marine Affairs and Fishery Minister Susi Pudjiastuti issued on December 10, 2014, Regulation No. 59/2014 regarding a ban on hammerhead and oceanic whitetip sharks until November 2015. It had since been extended with Marine Affairs and Fishery Ministry Regulation No. 34/2015, which is effective until December 31, 2016.
According to Agus, Indonesia was the world’s largest shark fin exporter. In 2012, for example, Indonesia exported 434 tons of shark fin worth over US$6 million, the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded.
He said that the ministry has joined hands with researchers to count the number of endangered shark species left in Indonesia. The regulation about the ban on export and hunting will be based on the outcome of the research. Despite the export ban, hunting and trade of certain shark species for domestic consumption are still allowed.

Earth Day 2017

02.34

Ever wondered how Earth Day started? This observance arose from an interest in gathering national support for environmental issues.
In 1970, San Francisco activist John McConnell and Wisconsin Senator Gaylord Nelson separately asked Americans to join in a grassroots demonstration. McConnell chose the spring equinox (March 21, 1970) and Nelson chose April 22.
Millions of people participated, and today Earth Day continues to be widely celebrated with events on both dates.
The most common practice of celebration is to plant new trees for Earth Day.

Wonder Woman

04.29

Warner Bros. has delivered when it comes to its visual campaign for Wonder Woman, creating some absolutely stunning posters and promotional material. Their latest takes a new approach but is just as gorgeous.

The new poster shows Diana at an angle holding her sword and shield as she appears ready to strike. The big difference is the background, which is pure white, with the only detail being the shadow on the ground. You might think this is an odd choice, but pairing the costume against such a stark background lets the vibrant red, blue, and gold suit shine even more. It also helps the would be wallpaper creator a great deal, so expect to see this as the wallpaper of choice on Monday at the office. You can view the poster in the gallery.

Weekly Reflection

02.00

I've done nothing much at this weekend. I'd just saw a movie, Guardians of the Galaxy. That movie was funny actually but I felt asleep in the middle of the movie. I missed some scenes but I didn't miss the part when they were fighting. It was quite long film, it's about 2 hours and at credits I had to wait for some sneek peaks of another movie, at least 5. It was worth that i had waited because they had connection with other superhero action. If you haven't watch that, you should. You won't regret it. Have a great day!

A Pink Moon

01.54

A pink moon is heading our way Tuesday – but those expecting to see a literal pink sphere sailing above us in the sky may be disappointed.
Any full moon that occurs in April is called a ‘Pink Moon’ simply because of the pink flowers, such as North America’s wild ground phlox, which blossom in April and are seen to symbolize new beginnings.

The April full moon marks the start of several religious festivals around the world, including the birth of Hanuman in India, the beginning of Passover for Jews, and the Christian Easter celebrations take place on the first Sunday after the full moon.

Texas Girls Choked On Fidget Spinner

01.53

Kelly Rose Joniec of Houston wrote in a Facebook post that she was on her way home Saturday afternoon when she heard Britton, her 10-year-old daughter, choking in the back seat. She pulled over and discovered that her daughter had swallowed one of the bearings from her fidget spinner.

After trying to dislodge the small piece of metal with the Heimlich maneuver, Joniec took Britton to the nearest urgent care center.
Doctors were unable to tell where the object had gotten stuck. It wasn't until after an ambulance ride to Texas Children's Hospital that an X-ray revealed the round metal bearing in the girl's esophagus.

World's Longest Cat

01.32

What’s it take for a cat to grow so long it’s in contention for a Guinness World Record? Good genes, a good home, and lots of raw kangaroo meat, apparently.
“It’s the only meat we could find that he actually wants to eat,” Stephy Hirst tells theBBC. The Australian woman is the owner of a 3-foot-11-inch-long Maine Coon named Omar.
The Melbourne resident created an Instagram account for Omar a few weeks ago, and one of his photos was shared 270,000 times on Cats of Instagram.
Then Guinness came calling. Now, Hirst is waiting to hear if she’s officially the owner of the world’s longest cat, beating the record from another Maine Coon that measures 3 feet 10.5 inches.

Day Dreaming Competition

01.22

On October 27th the first ever Space-Out Competition was held in South Korea’s Seoul Plaza. It was a fierce but very peaceful competition. Contestants had to maintain a stable heart rate while staying totally zoned out. Allkpop reports that acceptable space-out activities during the competition included nose-picking and scratching yourself, but listening to music, reading, or sleeping would get you disqualified.
Hopefully there will be another event like this one soon that you can say you’re training for next time you have something important you need to be doing.

Weekly Reflection

23.44

What' the most horrible thing that citizen should worry about? Yes, it's about criminal. Every people want to live peacefuly at their environment and sometimes rich people hire police to secure their fancy house to make sure that no thieve dare to come to their house. How about poor people? Do the police care abour them? Unfortunetely, in this era police doesn't care what's the matter if they don't get paid. We can relize that life is so unfair. People these days are so greedy about money and theur heart as cold as an ice. How can we fix that? Honestly, it's quite difficult in this generation because the selfishness is out of limit and quite massive. What a sad world.

Fireworks in Ottawa

23.26

The City of Ottawa has some rules for how you celebrate the Victoria Day weekend, at least when it comes to fireworks. If you want to see a show put on by the professionals, we have you covered.

For the second year in a row, there won't be a fireworks display at Mooney's Bay Park. The Riverside Park Recreation and Community Association said there weren't enough volunteers to safely hold the event this year.

Harry Styles at Carpool Karaoke

10.17

After hyping it all week, James Corden aired his carpool karaoke segment with Harry Styles last night—a 13-minute installment that easilyranks among Corden's best. Styles achieves peak heartthrob: There's soulful singing of "Sign of the Times," "Sweet Creature" (his mom's favorite song, he says) plus this insane, rocker moment with "Kiwi".
Styles additionally does two great covers: Outkast's "Hey Ya" and his fave karaoke duet, Lionel Richie and Diana Ross's "Endless Love." But the real magic is between songs. Corden and Styles have a fashion-off, where Styles proves he truly can make every shirt look good

Cannes Film Festival 2017

10.02

Honoring a repertoire of films from around the world, the esteemed Cannes Film Festival opened for its 70th year in the South of France Wednesday. The red carpet was flooded with some of the most talented faces across the globe, including director Pedro Almodóvar, Will Smith and Jessica Chastain -- all of whom are part of the festival's jury.
The 10-day festival was established in 1946, just as Europe was trying to regroup after the Second World War. Consequently, the Cannes Festival is rooted in a deep, artistic history; out of the destruction of the war came a worldwide celebration of the arts.
The "Palme d'Or" is the top prize awarded to a film that reflects this significant past. "The winning films have often mirrored changes taking place in the wider world," wrote the New York Times. While the festival was initially attended by faces like Grace Kelly (who attended in 1955) and Brigitte Bardot (a favorite of 1953), Cannes wasn't regarded with today's worldly significance until the '70s and '80s.
The Cannes red carpet is responsible for launching "a thousand careers." Whether or not these faces arrived at Cannes already as household names, they left with an opportunity: the ability to have an even greater impact on the arts. And it's the red carpet that propels them into the spotlight.
Before Brigette Bardot became the Brigette Bardot, she was an unknown 18-year-old aspiring star who shot to stardom at the festival in 1953. Her impact on cinematography and stardom is apparent. "She invented a new image of the French starlet: anti-snobbish, non-intimidating," said film professor Edward Baron Turk, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The Chainsmoker Album is The Worst

09.47

Where the Chainsmokers' own brand of sparse electro-pop stands in relation to Blake's is, to say the least, in the eye of the beholder—but it's inarguable that the duo's career leading up to their first full-length, Memories...Do Not Open, has seen them slowly peeling back layers from the bold, colourful, build-and-release template that so much of EDM has adhered to in the past. 2014's breakout "#Selfie" was a crass and brash slice of Electric Daisy fare; last year's "Don't Let Me Down" still featured a plethora of airhorns and synth squeals tailor-made for the Gobi Tent, but it was anchored around a flickering light of a guitar lick that more resembled LITE FM radio juggernauts like the Fray and Charlie Puth than it did presumptive contemporaries like Martin Garrix and Calvin Harris. You've absolutely heard its deathless, Halsey-featuring follow-up "Closer," which was the Chainsmokers' first number one single as well as a moment of aesthetic crystallisation, its purposefully anti-climactic hook nonetheless becoming massive in its own way.

And it follows that an anti-climactic fog hangs over much of Memories...Do Not Open. If you've heard a Chainsmokers song—which is to say, if you've listened to the radio at least once in the last 12 months—you know what to expect here: twelve songs that pair faux-navel-gazing lyrics with music that capably walks the line between festival-ready EDM and beige-hued pop-rock. A lot of the songs sound very similar to one another; objectively, a few of them come close to earning a critical designation of being "good." Most, if not all, of Memories...Do Not Open is inherently catchy in the sense that you will end up hearing the vast majority of it ad nauseam over the airwaves for the next year and a half—and a good number of those songs, whether you like it or not, will get stuck in your head. You can fight it off like a plague or embrace it with open arms, but The Chainsmokers' ability to make music that is easily loved by the masses is at the core of what they do.

Miss USA 2017

09.30

For the second consecutive year, Miss District of Columbia, a black woman and HBCU graduate, has been crowned Miss USA. Outgoing 2016 Miss USA Deshauna Barber crowned her fellow Washington, D.C., resident, Kára McCullough, 25, Sunday night in Las Vegas.
McCullough is a chemist working for the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Two black women were named Miss USA, back to back, in front of a white audience. I am not the biggest fan of pageants—or any related beauty competitions—but even for me, this made me smile.
For the past few years, the nation’s capital has watched as it has slowly changed from chocolate city to vanilla latte city
, so it was good to see the District maintain some semblance of melanin on a national stage. But the more McCullough talked, the more I realized that her comments epitomized the adage, “All skin folk ain’t kinfolk.” While recognizing this, I was still happy to see a black woman—an HBCU graduate, no less—be crowned by her successor, another HBCU graduate. These are not mutually exclusive.

Weekly Reflection

09.12

Have you addicted to something that you can't live without it? How about tv series? Does anyone of you addicted with those things? Yes I do. One of my favorite serial is Empire.

It talks about first billionaire hip hop family and the complex relation inside the whole family is really interesting. When I saw it for the first time, I didn't expect that I will addicted with the pot, especially for the music. They are so beautiful and sometimes they make collaboration with famous singer like Alicia Keys. That's so fascinating, isn't it? For your information, Empire tv series already released
3 seasons and the third one is the most unexpected and it makes viewers really surprised. For all of you who really loves drama, I mean American drama, you'd better see that tv series.

Bella Thorne Inspired Charlie Puth

09.10

It's Friday and Charlie Puth dropped a new song today, which means all is right in the world. It's a freaking jam with upbeat tones, a beat drop that will make you want to get out on the dance floor, and vocals that sound perfect and polished. The track is called "Attention."
Even though it might be a song that everyone is sure to rock out to, we can't help but wonder who the lyrics were inspired by.
Could  this song possibly be about Bella Thorne?!
Okay, so that might be a far stretch, but there's lots of evidence to prove that this could very well be about the Famous In Love actress, who Charlie may or may not have had a fling with at the end of 2016 and beginning of 2017.
Charlie and Bella were caught kissing in Miami just days before they walked the Jingle Ball red carpet together. The photos were shocking because everyone thought that Bella was still dating Tyler Posey and then assumed that she had been caught cheating. Fans went wild and totally bashed her on social media sending her death threats.

But things didn't stop there. Charlie put out a public apology to Tyler on Twitter, which made Bella look even worse. Since then, she has opened up about the whole situation multiple times. Is this song his way of telling his side of the story? Is he saying that all she wants is attention?

Masterchef Australia Season 9

09.11

Popular cooking show Masterchef Australia released the teaser of its ninth season on social media on 12 March, 2017. This teaser is both promising and visually exciting.
The visuals of the teaser are beautiful, with shots of home cooks preparing dishes, creative plating and the contestants happy and confident faces.
Judge George Calombaris says that the standard of cooking is mind blowing this season, adding that they're just getting "better and better". Matt too, describes the change that their lives undergo. "I've learnt that the potential of these homecooks is almost limitless," he says, adding that 75% of contestants change their lives completely.
Gary says he is surprised how creative the contestants are very early on. All of these lines tie in well with the show's subtitle: "Ordinary people. Extraordinary food."

Avril Lavigne is Not Avril Lavigne

22.55

Do you know Avril Lavigne was replaced by a lookalike named Melissa in 2003? At least, that’s what the internet would have you believe. The old conspiracy theory that Lavigne was “cloned” resurfaced on Twitter over the weekend, but it has been bandied about the internet since 2005 and is thought to have originated on a Brazilian fanpage.
The theory claims Lavigne, struggling with fame at the beginning of her career, began using a body double named Melissa. At some point, the real Lavigne is said to have died, so the record company replaced her with Melissa full-time. “Proof” has included Lavigne’s red carpet shots (Lavigne wears trousers; Melissa prefers dresses and skirts) and supposed differences between the facial features of pre-2003 Lavigne and the current incarnation. Theorists also believe Melissa has left clues in songs, such as Slipped Away, in which she sings: “The day you slipped away was the day I found it won’t be the same”. There was even a publicity shot in which Lavigne had “Melissa” written on her hand. Spooky.

Fidget Spinner

22.42

A fidget spinner is considered to be a type of fidget toy; a low profile, handheld device that people can, well, fidget with without making a big scene. A fidget spinner has a stable middle and a disc with two or three paddles that can be spun, much like a ceiling fan. The result is supposed to be relaxing and satisfying, and really good spinners can keep going for minutes at a time.
The little devices were originally designed to help students with attention disorders like ADD -- expert say having something to occupy their hands may help improve concentration. However, the spinners caught on with the general population, and now come in every color and finish imaginable, with add-ons and doo-hickeys galore.

Met Gala 2017

10.22

On May 1, New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art opened its doors for the Met Gala, the annual invitation-only fundraiser to benefit the museum's Costume Institute, and a launch party for its spring exhibition.
While it's easy enough to enjoy a parade of designer dresses from the red carpet, a little context goes a long way. Here's what you need to know about fashion's most important party.
