How Much Does It Cost to Win An Oscar

19.51

Every award has a price. Especially for the Oscar. Citizen has been talking about the Oscar since the worst mistake has Oscar made yesterday. I guarantee people are curious how much money does the winner spent to wins an Oscar.
For the statue, it costs around $400. George Lucas, a film maker in Hollywood said that it took political campaign, had nothing to do with perfomance. It means to wins the Oscar, you have to sell your movie. Make sure you see the film.

Most of the movie business are not clear what they have spent. At that campaign. In 2014, Sony Pictures Studios given an idea what the number is. Sony spent around $4,2 million just to get the film “Captain Philips” nominated. If we doubled the number for the whole process, it would spent $8,4 million with 6,000 voters Oscar voters more than $1,000 for a vote.

The campaign costs advertising, talk shows, screenings, film festivals and retrospectives to get more exposures to the voters. For Sony, this month spending $100,000 for them all, except for the advertising. Sony spends $700,000 for it. Running a campaign does not always guarantee victory.

Hollywood spends $500 million on Oscar campaign per season. Taht would coveredthe cost making “La La Land” 16.5 times

Winning an Oscar can change the Artist life. The best actor ,Albert Finney’s salary increase $3.9 million per film. While the best actrist, Jennifer Lawrence’s salary increase $500,000 along with the photoshoot for magazine

La La Moon Land Light

07.14

The presenters for the final award — Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway — were incorrectly given the best actress award envelope. A confused Beatty saw Emma Stone’s name and “La La Land,” and handed the envelope to Dunaway, who then announced the musical as the Best Picture winner.
The “La La Land” cast took the stage and producers began their speeches. But they stopped midway when they realized their error.
“There’s a mistake. ‘Moonlight’ you guys won best picture,” Jordan Horowitz said to the shocked Dolby Theater audience. “This is not a joke, come up here” the producer added. “Moonlight has won best picture.”
Beatty then returned to the microphone to explain: “I want to tell you what happened. I opened the envelope and it said Emma Stone, ‘La La Land.’ That’s why I took such a long look at Faye and at you. I wasn’t trying to be funny.”

“Moonlight” beat out “La La Land,” “Hidden Figures,” “Manchester by the Sea,” “Arrival,” “Hacksaw Ridge,” “Hell or High Water,” “Lion,” and “Fences.

Hamburger University by McDonalds

06.36

Forget Harvard and Yale, you can get a degree in hamburgers. Yes, hamburgers.

It's a little-known fact outside the McDonald's Corp. that the fast-food chain runs a program actually called Hamburger University. There are seven locations around the world, with the flagship 130,000-square-foot facility on the 80-acre Oak Brook, Ill., corporate campus.
McDonald's spokeswoman Becca Hary said that owners-operators sent restaurant managers there to learnt how to run a McDonald's restaurant. So it's really a place where McDonald's employees could learn and grow.
Some students might practice what to do if a customer slips and falls, while others learn how to manage the books. The program isn't free, but owners-operators typically pay for an employee's participation as "an investment in the future of their employee.

The facility has 19 full-time professors who teach different courses designed for crew, restaurant managers, mid-managers and executives in 28 different languages. More than 275,000 McDonald's franchisees, managers and employees have graduated from Hamburger University worldwide, with more than 40 percent of the company's senior leaders graduating from the program.
Founded in 1961 by former McDonald's CEO Fred Turner, the program started in the basement of a restaurant with an average of about 10 students per class and was originally designed to teach consistency in products. Today, classes have ballooned to more than 200 students, and more than 5,000 people attend each year to learn much more than just how to consistently build a Big Mac.
Now, students can even earn their associate's degree through 1,600 participating colleges if they take enough courses at the university.
So don't laugh at a degree in hamburgers.

Sweden's Women Wear Motivational Shirt

08.21

Anyone watching Sweden's national women's team play this week should take a close look at the back of the players' shirts. You won't see the footballers' names -- but you could find something that inspires you.
The players chose tweets from well-known Swedish women, such as singer Zara Larsson, to be put where their surnames would normally appear.

The team, which won silver at the Rio 2016 Olympics, released the shirts this week as it competes at the Algarve Cup in Portugal.
Sweden's Football Association said it hopes the initiative -- titled #InYourName -- would "inspire and motivate other women to stand up for each other and themselves -- and to show that nothing is impossible."
A tweet from singer Larsson saying "Believe in your damn self" is worn by Lisa Dahlkvist, while fellow midfielder Olivia Schough's shirt bears a message which reads: "Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about. Be kind. Always."
Now ranked eighth in the world, Sweden was a surprise finalist at Rio 2016, where it lost 2-1 to Germany in the gold medal match.
Swedish FA communications director Niklas Bodell said the team's success -- which included a penalty shootout win over defending champion the United States -- was a good example of "the power in togetherness."

The Algarve tournament is running at the same time as the SheBelieves Cup.

In its second year, the four-nation invitational event was conceived by US national team players in order to inspire new generations of young girls and women "to be better and strive for better."

KSA 1st Comic Con

09.50

Saudi Arabia, officially known as the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) held a three-day festival which paid by the governor to bring more entertainment to KSA.

The most fascinating things happened on the 1st Comic Con in KSA are there’s a gender mixing. As we thought, in Saudi Arabia is very tight about the gender. Men and women have to maintain a distance to avoid some undesirable thing. A separate female-tent was set up for women who wanted to show-off their costumes. So the men-tent was. The second thing is even the gate was separated, when they got trough into the building, they are the same and they will forget if they are in Saudi Arabia.

Setting up the event took over a year, and a balance was struck to keep the spirit of the Comic Con while adhering to the country's religious regulations.
Indecent symbols or logos that went against Islamic teachings were prohibited and attendees were not allowed to cross-dress.
Even then, there was uproar online against what was considered a Western phenomenon in the traditional Islamic kingdom.
A hashtag calling Comic Con a "devil worshipping" festival became popular on Twitter and some called for boycotting it.

Weekly Reflection

08.00

Everything’s normal. Nothing is special. How about my 3rd week being a blogger? Well…

Sooner or later you will kinda boring. Do the same thing every day and you’ll have no motivation at all. So, how do I get the inspiration for my blog topics? Actually, because of this blog assessment, I read the world news from CNN, especially for U.S. politic. I think it’s so interesting and intents. Sometimes it’s funny, sometimes it doesn’t make sense but that’s news overall. As a good reader, you have to be clever to separate which one is true, which one is not.

Why I wrote about political into my blog? Well, honestly it’s such a heavy materials. If you want to put a topic to your blog, you have to read it first and make sure it’s relevant to share with or not. And I think I will start the political news regularly for the next week, even it’s quite challenging for me, but I’ll do that. There’s always the first time for everything, isn’t it?

That’s all my weekly reflection, I hope you all the readers still enjoying my blogs. Sayonara!

Happy 10th Birthday, iPhone

07.24

Apple has joined an industry group devoted to wireless charging, strengthening existing rumors that the next iPhone will charge without a cord. The Wireless Power Consortium, which is made up of some 200 organizations that promote a single wireless charging standard.

IPhone rumors swirl months before each new version is announced, and hype around the so-called 'iPhone 8" is particularly high expected to unveil a major redesign of the this fall to mark the 10-year anniversary of the smartphone.

The company has already shown interest in doing away with cumbersome cords. The Apple Watch charges wirelessly, provided consumers spend $79 on a magnetic charging dock. And the latest MacBook now comes with only one USB port.
Apple would also create another iPhone revenue stream by selling a wireless charging station separately. The feature would simplify charging for smartphone owners. Rather than plugging in one's phone, a user would only need to place it on the charging dock.

As for the speculated possible features of the next iPhone, other rumors include an edge-to-edge display, a glass body and the removal of the home button

Hijabi Emoji

07.11

Soon, headscarf-wearing Muslim women may find an emoji to represent them 15-year-old, Rayouf Alhumedh,  Saudi girl.
She said that the fact that there hasn't been an emoji to represent me and the millions of other hijabi women across the world has been baffling to me
So, Rayouf, who lives in Berlin, proposed the idea to The Unicode Consortium, the non-profit corporation that reviews and develops new emojis.
Alexis Ohanian, co-found of Reddit, backs her idea of an emoji of a woman wearing a hijab. He hosted an online discussion Tuesday where Rayouf talked about her idea.
Some, Rayouf said, were opposed, calling it "unnecessary" and a "symbol of oppression."
But most were on board.

She said people in general wanted to strive for diversity.
Rayouf will present her proposal in person to Emojicon and the Unicode Technical Committee in November.

And chances are great that an emoji of a hijabi will on phones by next year.

The Mystery of Adele's Songs

05.35

Have you ever wondered why Adele’s songs so touched?

Couple days ago, Adele won Grammys 2017, believed by so many people that a Ballad Song which is so nice to be heard if we have bad times. Seemingly, some of the melodies can make us feel so happy or sad, just followed our emotion.

The researches University of McMaster in Canada think that European songs composers include Chopin and Johann Sebastian Bach are using speech cues to make their masterpieces to fire up our emotion. To test that theory, the experts analyzed a combination of 72 opening opera from Bach and Chopin. All masterpieces chosen based on the signification and popularity. They identified the masterpieces patters which are giving the emotional of the songs. And they found a new evidence that the composers bent used cues on their music similar with the cues of their emotional.

The happiness is produced from the higher inflection and a fast beat. The cheerful masterpieces change into mayor keys, and the sad ones change into minor keys. This newest research published from The Frontiers of Psychology : Cognition Journal.

So, how can be this classics song connected with Adele’s Ballad songs? Well, from the acoustic point of view, Adele’s Ballad songs started with “creepy” sounds on the range note and evenly small beats. It causes melancholy mood and that’s what Adele changed to the next song when the level energy goes straight up gradually

POTUS Awkward Hand Shaking

05.22

The internet is on fire talking about a handshake. Specifically, a handshake between U.S. President Donald Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzō Abe. It’s a weird handshake that goes on far too long even for Abe’s liking. Seriously.

This raises an important question: Does Donald Trump know how to shake hands with a fellow human being? We decided to take a deep dive in and find out. What we found is that the president has a tendency to pull powerful men toward him in a way that jerks them forward. It’s, uh, kind of strange. Don’t believe us? Here’s some proof.

Here, in a handshake with Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, the forcefulness of both men leads to an awkward game of tug of war.

Even Vice President Mike Pence is not immune to the Trump tug.

When Mitt Romney shook Trump’s hand a few years back, he tried to fight the tug. And he failed.

So, does Donald Trump know how to shake hands? We’re going to go with no.

Broke the Grammys

05.05

Today is Grammy Awards 2017. And every single annual has the best moment. And this time, Adele did. Want to know what’s happening next? Check this out!

This year, Adele won Song and Record of The Year “Hello” and The Album of The Year ”25”. When she gave her speech for her album on the stage, she dedicated her speech to Beyoncé because she felt Beyoncé should be won this year for her album “Lemonade”. She made beautiful speech that made Beyoncé flattered and cried.

And the unpredictable moment was when she broke the Grammy’s trophy into two pieces and she gave the half it to Beyoncé. After she broke the trophy of The Album of The Year, she smile from ear to ear and she explained why she did that in the backstage. She said that this year was Beyoncé’s. She didn’t know what she had to do to won The Album of The Year.

So, did Adele did the right thing?

Weekly Reflection

23.49

Actually, being a blogger isn't easy. Sometimes you have some motivation to publish your blog every single day. And honestly, it's quite hard to find recently, for me. There's nothing special this weekend. Like the previous week, what I wrote was what I did and some of them was about food.

Perhaps this week I did somethin different, like I chose one of the nightlife in Indonesia as my blog title. Why I chose that? On Thursday, I went to my friend's house. I was wondering why the road was so crowded. After I went further, I saw a sign that the road was closed cause a event. But I have to go there because my friend's house is over there. And I was quite surprised there was a Night Market and I hadn't gone there for many years. So, I decided to went there after I met my friends.

How about Sharks? Where did I find the motivation?
Well, Actually I wanted to write about Whales dead in the New Zealand coast, but It was too jumped from my previous topic, so I chose Sharks rather than Whales.

That's how my inspiration came for this week blogs. Have a good day!

Let's Swim With Sharks!

06.55

Megalodon (the biggest shark that lived for 2.6 million years ago) may be extinct, but other sharks have been making headlines lately.
There's the great white-tracking app Sharktivity, there's this viral photo of a shark dangerously close to a surfing boy, and there's the Australian Zebra Shark who shocked scientists by giving birth without a male.
And as our fascination shows no sign of abating, swimming with sharks continues to be a large and growing activity.
The global shark tourism industry makes an estimated $500 million a year, says Patric Douglas, founder of Shark Divers and a shark dive specialist based in California.

Many tout swimming with sharks as one of the greatest diving experiences to be had.
Depending on the diver's comfort level, options range from observing sharks from underwater cages to participating in feedings.
    Here's where to do it.
    1. False Bay, Cape Town, South Africa
    2. Protea Banks, South Africa
    3. Bahamas
    4. Fiji
    5. Cocos Island, Costa Rica
    6. Red Sea, Egypt
    7. Bali, Indonesia
    8. Malapascua, Philippines
    9. Guadalupe, Mexico
    10. Oahu, Hawaii

    The Real Nightlife

    08.06

Night markets originally took root mostly in Asian cities, where the advent of electricity freed locals to bargain over goods without the pressure of daylight and its oppressive heat. Countries as varied as Canada, Peru, and France eventually put their own spins on the night market concept. But it's only in the past few years that major U.S. cities are seeing the potential.

Some night markets gradually go beyond serving the local community to become sprawling tourist attractions in their own right. After a day out at Laotian temples and monasteries, many visitors stroll Luang Prabang's night market, where more than 300 vendors sell everything from traditional textiles embroidered by the Hmong minority to teas and rare spices such as pandan, used as a fragrance for desserts.

Even at markets where the quality can be questionable or downright kitschy, it's an experience just to be a part of the after-dark hubbub—and you're guaranteed to head home with colorful stories.

Why Are We So In Love with Korean Dramas?

    07.58

When "Gangnam Style" by Psy hit YouTube like a tsunami, many people were surprised to discover how popular Korean music and dramas are in America and outside of Korea.

Korean entertainment industry is booming right now. The global audience for Korean music and Korean television is exploding across Asia and is even spreading to Europe and North America.
This surge of Korean cultural popularity has been called "Hallyu." It means Korean wave and refers to the way Korean entertainment is spreading around the world.

Here are some of the most common reasons why people become fans of K-drama:
    • Eye candy! - The stars of dramas are very attractive. There is a reason there are lots of "broody shower scenes" and "princess for a day makeovers" to be found in Korean shows.
    • Squeaky clean - The majority of K-Dramas are G-rated and very clean compared to American movies and television. Foul language is rare, violence is minimal, and love scenes rarely progress past kissing. In fact, even seeing a French kiss in a Korean drama is newsworthy.
    • Fresh factor - Many people from the Western world watch Korean dramas just because they are different from the programming they are used to. It's not the same old stale, predictable plots that have been recycled for seasons. The plots, types of characters, and even the settings in K-dramas feel new and different and, therefore, more exciting.
    • The format - A typical Korean drama is 16-20 episodes and then it is done. The length is perfect to tell a whole, connected story that has a strong buildup and conclusion. The season is longer than a movie, so viewers because more emotionally invested. And it has a definitive end so the plot doesn't become about filling time to last for multiple seasons.

    Y.O.L.O (You Obviously Love Oreos)

    07.04

If you heard OREO, what's the first thing you thought? I bet some of you remember the extra "diputer, dijilat, dicelupin" or should i say "twist, lick, dunk". But have you ever thought why we so addicted to OREO? Don't you curious? Well, here's the answer.

A small new study suggests the brain responds to Oreo cookies quite like it responds to actual drugs .The “pleasure center” of the brain, the nucleus accumbens, apparently gets just as activated in response to Oreos as it does to cocaine and morphine, which could actually have some major public health implications. While the study was done in rats, the authors say it’s likely relevant to humans as well, and could explain why people have such a hard time resisting eating an entire sleeve of the cookies.

The study, which will be presented at the Society for Neuroscience’s annual conference next month, also made another discovery:  Rats, like humans, like to eat Oreo’s creamy center first.

There’s been a heated debate about whether food addiction works in fundamentally similar ways to more “classical” addictions. Some studies have suggested some deleterious effects of sugar, and raised concerns about the effects of certain varieties of sugar and sweeteners on the brain, while others aren't so sure.

A final oddity of the current study: the rats apparently preferred the creamy vanilla filling to the cookie itself. Said Honohan, “They would break it open and eat the middle first." Though this isn't likely enough to confirm that the results are applicable to humans, it does make one wonder if we're really not so different after all.
