Why Are We So In Love with Korean Dramas?

07.58

When "Gangnam Style" by Psy hit YouTube like a tsunami, many people were surprised to discover how popular Korean music and dramas are in America and outside of Korea.

Korean entertainment industry is booming right now. The global audience for Korean music and Korean television is exploding across Asia and is even spreading to Europe and North America.
This surge of Korean cultural popularity has been called "Hallyu." It means Korean wave and refers to the way Korean entertainment is spreading around the world.

Here are some of the most common reasons why people become fans of K-drama:
  • Eye candy! - The stars of dramas are very attractive. There is a reason there are lots of "broody shower scenes" and "princess for a day makeovers" to be found in Korean shows.
  • Squeaky clean - The majority of K-Dramas are G-rated and very clean compared to American movies and television. Foul language is rare, violence is minimal, and love scenes rarely progress past kissing. In fact, even seeing a French kiss in a Korean drama is newsworthy.
  • Fresh factor - Many people from the Western world watch Korean dramas just because they are different from the programming they are used to. It's not the same old stale, predictable plots that have been recycled for seasons. The plots, types of characters, and even the settings in K-dramas feel new and different and, therefore, more exciting.
  • The format - A typical Korean drama is 16-20 episodes and then it is done. The length is perfect to tell a whole, connected story that has a strong buildup and conclusion. The season is longer than a movie, so viewers because more emotionally invested. And it has a definitive end so the plot doesn't become about filling time to last for multiple seasons.

Y.O.L.O (You Obviously Love Oreos)

07.04

If you heard OREO, what's the first thing you thought? I bet some of you remember the extra "diputer, dijilat, dicelupin" or should i say "twist, lick, dunk". But have you ever thought why we so addicted to OREO? Don't you curious? Well, here's the answer.

A small new study suggests the brain responds to Oreo cookies quite like it responds to actual drugs .The “pleasure center” of the brain, the nucleus accumbens, apparently gets just as activated in response to Oreos as it does to cocaine and morphine, which could actually have some major public health implications. While the study was done in rats, the authors say it’s likely relevant to humans as well, and could explain why people have such a hard time resisting eating an entire sleeve of the cookies.

The study, which will be presented at the Society for Neuroscience’s annual conference next month, also made another discovery:  Rats, like humans, like to eat Oreo’s creamy center first.

There’s been a heated debate about whether food addiction works in fundamentally similar ways to more “classical” addictions. Some studies have suggested some deleterious effects of sugar, and raised concerns about the effects of certain varieties of sugar and sweeteners on the brain, while others aren't so sure.

A final oddity of the current study: the rats apparently preferred the creamy vanilla filling to the cookie itself. Said Honohan, “They would break it open and eat the middle first." Though this isn't likely enough to confirm that the results are applicable to humans, it does make one wonder if we're really not so different after all.

KitKat + Sushi = ???

06.56

What is your first impression of that title? Surprised? Excited?
Well, I was quite surprised with those Japanese food combination. We never thought about that but it’s happening in Japan!
These limited edition “sushi” sets will be given to visitors at Tokyo’s newest KitKat Chocolatory Shop in Ginza.

The bars come in three flavors, which fortunately don't taste anything like the varieties of sushi they're modeled to look like -- unless you count the seaweed.
There's tuna sushi, which actually tastes like raspberry. The seaweed wrapped sushi omelet is really a pumpkin pudding KitKat.
Lastly, the sea urchin sushi is a Hokkaido melon with mascarpone cheese KitKat.

All three have a base made of puffed rice with white chocolate and a hint of wasabi.
Visitors will also get to create their own original KitKats using the toppings of their choice.

KitKat has long been famed for venturing into unusual territory in Japan. Some versions have managed to find fans in overseas markets, too, with green tea-flavored KitKats now available in shops worldwide. But this is the first time the brand has ever released a set inspired by sushi. Reps from KitKat owner Nestle say it all started with a 2016 April Fool's Day social media post featuring a mock advertisement for sushi KitKats. The response was so strong they decided to go ahead and create a few for real.

So, has Japan gone too far?

Weekly Reflection

08.48

So, here we are again! This is my first weekly reflection. I will tell you about my first week become a blogger.

On my first day, I already have a topic for my blog. It was about food crisis in the world. When I wrote 1 line, it said “People can’t live without food”. And suddenly I remember what my Senior High School teacher said that people can survive without food, but they can’t live without water. So, I used water as my topic instead. I used my teacher’s lesson as my first paragraph.
On Tuesday, there was nothing special. I just typed some lines on my blog account and suddenly I accepted a notification from my friend, Nawa. She said she got her second title of her blog from me! How it could be? So, on that day I brought a cereal as my breakfast at the campus. So, that’s it! She wrote her second blog about cereal!
Wednesday, my favorite day. Nothing special as always. Until, one of my friends, Hansel, asked me, Mily and Helen to have some snacks on him! Let’s say, who will regret free snacks after we have quite busy day! And we chatted all the time and we ate a Dark Chocolate Ice Cream. And same as the previous day, someone, Helen made Chocolate as her thirth blog.
Thursday, it was the day when we supposed to day-off but we had to join the SAC event. It was fun, we were playing twister. It’s a game about played your feet and hands. Besides, we had to make a sentence to keep playing. And then I went home with Helen, and suddenly we want a fried banana cheese, so we went to a snack stand near my house. I ordered a matcha topping and she ordered a lemon one. Before we went home, she said she would have matcha as her fourth topic. I don’t know for sure but I’m quite happy if she did.
It’s Friday for free-day but I’m pretty sure we don’t have a free-day today. Yes, we have many assignments to do today but thank God, it’s done. When I wrote about this weekly reflection, I was little bit confused about the title. So, to avoid that confusions, I ate pizza. Yeah, sometimes food will solve your problem. Literally. And finally, here I am. I had just finished my weekly reflection! Thank you!

How about daily things that we should do to keep water save? The most important is let’s use water wisely. If you have bath in your bathroom, fuel it sufficiently. It’s a simple action but if we can do that regularly, we can save water wisely. For the example, turn off the water while you’re shaving and brushing your teeth. It’s easy but its avoid water over-using. The second thing is checking all faucets, pipes and toilets for leaks. This is the most important because sometimes we have no idea how much water wasted accidently and we just let them happen. And the last but not the least is use a bucket instead of a hose to wash your car. Why? If we use a hose we feel like it has much fun and we enjoy to waste it, don’t we? Well let’s start to minimize and use water wisely. Save water for our grand children!

The government has solved the problem (mostly) and now it’s time for us? What will we do to help them? I don’t think we will go somewhere which are have drought problem. Actually, have you gone to the supermarket and sometimes there is a stand and some employees which are want to talk to us about world crisis? My suggestion, have your little time to talk with them. Perhaps they will give you some ways to help people out there. I’m not only talk about drought, but all the world crisis. They will ask you for charity by your ATM, and maybe you only spent Rp 2000 per day and you already helping people out there. That’s easy and cheap, isn’t it? Why don’t we do that? Why I know this thing so well? Because exactly a month ago, when I went to the supermarket, a woman offered me for charity and transferred my money to UNICEF. Like people said,

What a great news for us! Our brothers and sisters who are struggling for get water to survive, they get some help from the government and the volunteer. Recently,  the local government gives charity to some areas which are have limited water sources by build many irrigations, and the more important is they're making pipelines for each houses and people don’t have to pay. So, it makes people happy and basically we owed them because we let them suffered and we didn’t do anything. Perhaps you have questions where is the source of funds from? Based on some information I’ve read, our beloved President, Mr. Joko Widodo, gave more attention to people who are have some troubles with water. And another sources are from college student which is wants to be a volunteer and they did some charities by selling some clothes, food, and so on. Don’t you realize that so many kind people around us?
